I don’t get it – I don’t get the ‘I love hot holidays’ vibe – choosing to be hot and bothered all day long, with barely any way of getting out of the heat. A choice… you’d actually choose that?!
You can probably guess, but I really struggle with heat, I struggle with heat that I cannot control. I can deal with an open fire because you can change the heat – with the amount of logs or coal you add, but I struggle with central heating, because it is so gradual. It catches you unawares.
And so… Why I love Autumn.
- Colour Change
You’ve seen it – the colours of the trees change. The view from your window changes, the way that you view the sunrise or sunset changes. And the colours of the day change. Everything becomes so much more romantic – so much more tranquil, as if everyone is going to sleep. We are all done growing and creating, and we are now going to reap what we have sown and relax.
The colours of the floor changes, the colours of what we see in magazines have changed. And what we see on horses – with their now two coloured bodies – through clipping… and the colour of wellies change – they are now brown and green.
Hunting is also permitted, it is now time to get ready to watch the morning from a horse, from a warm, clipped, clean horse…
- Dark Nights
Dark nights call for, (in no particular order or differing days) a hot chocolate, a gripping book, warm slippers, warm cider, mood lighting, waking up in the dark, enjoying the sunrise and sunset without being out of bed at a horrific time… and most of all, the duvet. The duvet can come out for movie nights, for Saturday warm ups after hunting or a brisk walk. Duvet days are more frequent. Rain also makes duvet days.
- Scope for Layers
Oh my life, this is heaven. I can wear two or three layers without getting a SULA… (Sweaty Upper Lip Alert), I can actually wear layers without being hot and bothered. I am a massive fan of a strap top, jumper, gilet and coat – dreams are made of this stuff.
You see, I cannot work out what layers to put on in the summer, I get sweaty with only a T-Shirt on and I like to drink tea… which is considered weird in the Summer… Oh how I love Autumn and Winter.
Layers can also be formed by eating more… which we all can agree is vital in hibernation time…
Oh Autumn, I am so so so ready for you.
