Life itself is an odd one isn’t it. We’re powered by money, relationships, emotions and goals. We all have passions or deep loves for different things.
The thing I wanna focus on is Equestrianism.
As we all know, and if you don’t – get reading, I love horses, and I’ve chosen to use horses as my career direction.
But isn’t it weird what has happened and evolved out of horses, and human interaction. Horses were, and are still for some, machines. They used to be the only thing that kept the farm going – and get the arable farm producing crops. They used to be the centre of a farm. Now, it is tractors. Ever considered that it might be normal to pet and take any old tractor to an event? Sure, you get the super cool and fun ones that are older now, – and are unique and antique – but you wouldn’t take any old common tractor to a show – that would be weird. You do with a horse though.
We choose to mount the horse, ask it to dance for a bit, and get emotionally connected and obsessed with the thing. It’s weird isn’t it?
We spend our hard earned cash on the thing, get emotional when it goes wrong, and are convinced that we are a horse whisperer when it all works… What is going on!! We are genuinely all turning mad.
Anyone who isn’t a horse fanatic already thinks, and knows this – but some get stuck in the rut!
I am for sure, I love my horse – like full-on think about what I am going to do with him next, worry about loosing him – although if it had to happen, I would rather he went than was in pain or his living standards are dropping from what I believe he deserves. One gets very involved with the old thing.
We all have our own feelings about those who do the same with other things – get obsessed with something as stupidly as humans do with horses – but strangely it’s considered more socially accepted than that of another obsession. It is confusing you know.
However – I would just like to take this opportunity to state that in no way whatsoever does a human do nothing when riding a horse. It’s hard work – you can smell my sweaty hat to really understand how much work it takes to do anything on the whole thing.
Some people think horses should have better living conditions than themselves – at University, I watched a Channel 4 documentary – looking at animal and equine welfare – and the man spent his pension on the 7 horses he had rescued, or looked after for years – and he was living in what can only be described as squalor.
Obsessions can become infatuations!!
Isn’t it a completely and utterly weird reaction to an animal. It’s worth it though – if you don’t believe me. Try it. Try before you judge!
